Ye Olde Pharmacy owner, John Waclawski. R.Ph, C.D.E., and his daughter, pharmacist Monica Zatarski, D.R., Ph, recently opened MD Custom Rx, located next door to Ye Olde Pharmacy at 5322 N. Port Washington Road, Glendale.

Monica is a specially trained pharmacist in the art of custom prescription compounding. She was previously responsible for the prescription compounding service provided by Ye Olde Pharmacy and grew this specialty niche to the point where it was necessary to open MD Custom Rx. A new "prescription compounding-only" pharmacy was needed due to the growing product-specific demand by both physicians and patients in the area. Monica has become a highly recognized specialist in "Hormone Balance ."

A new GCC member, MD Custom Rx is an independent family-owned pharmacy and differs from traditional pharmacies in that it does not dispense commercially manufactured pharmaceuticals. "At MD Custom Rx, all prescriptions are custom-made for patients, based on physician orders designed to fit the specific individual need of each patient," said Monica Zatarski. The pharmacy is stocked with raw pharmaceutical-grade ingredients used in the preparation of medications. Unique equipment such as an ointment mill, powder blender, electronic balance, encapsulation machine and more sophisticated equipment are used by Monica and her staff to prepare custom prescriptions. Sterile products are produced in a state-of-the-art, USP 797 compliant clean room which was custom built for MD Custom Rx.

Pharmacist and co-owner John Waclawski explains that the types of prescriptions compounded by Monica and her staff are endless. They include topical pain gels for neuropathy, topical gels for nausea, capsules and tablets for arthritis and inflammation, suppositories for infertility, injectables for impotency, and injectables for high risk pregnancy, just to name a few. "Compounded prescriptions for animals are also prepared at MD Custom Rx," said John.

Monica consults with patients and physicians by appointment on issues involving symptoms of hormone imbalance. Based on test results and physician orders, Monica and her staff prepare compounded prescriptions using bio-identical hormones.
