![]() | International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists (IACP) advocates to protect, promote and advance the art and science of the pharmacy compounding profession. Representing more than 2,000 pharmacists and technicians including those with MD Custom Rx, who focus on the specialty practice of pharmacy compounding. More than 86,000 patients and prescribers who rely on compounded medicines also belong to our organization. Did you know the Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Supreme Court, Congress, and virtually every major association of health care professionals have recognized the value of compounding pharmacists? Unfortunately, misguided efforts to alter the regulatory landscape threaten pharmacists' ability to practice compounding and, subsequently, physician and patient access to these medication choices. Contrary to what state laws hold, the FDA claims, for instance, that compounded medications are new drugs and must undergo the FDA’s new drug approval process for manufactured pharmaceuticals. It has also declared that animal medications compounded from pure pharmaceutical ingredients are illegal. IACP is fighting in courts, in Congress and in the public arena to raise awareness of the value of compounding and to reverse these policies and maintain states’ historically established authority over the practice of compounding. |
